SUMMARY
Under general supervision, greets, fulfills customer orders and rings-up sales at the Davis Center; provides excellent service to all customers by acting with a customer-comes-first attitude; educates customers about the products offered.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Greets and converses with customers.
  • Creates a positive and welcoming atmosphere for every customer; discovers and responds to customer needs.
  • Prepares beverages and food products in accordance with Café policies and procedures; educates customers on product offerings and special orders; provides recommendations as requested.
  • Follows operational policies and procedures in regard to cash handling, safety and security.
  • Maintains a clean and organized workspace.
  • Stocks and organizes merchandise as required.
  • Assists with training of new and part-time staff.
  • Communicates with co-workers and management to solve problems and improve quality and service.
  • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the Café’s service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
  • Assists in opening/closing of café.
  • Maintains high level of quality standards for all product preparation; follows health, safety and sanitation guidelines for all products.
  • Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and MPS staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment. Answers the phone in a professional manner.
  • Enthusiastically promotes the Superintendent’s goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines

High School Diploma/GED; AND one (1) year of retail food service/coffee shop experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.

Knowledge of:

  • Safety and sanitation practices for food preparation, distribution and storage.
  • Cash register operations and cash handling techniques.
  • Personal sanitation and hygiene regulations.
  • Gourmet coffees and blends; brewing equipment and different garnishing techniques associated with coffee drinks.
  • Principles and practices of effective customer service.

Skill in:

  • Providing superior customer service.
  • Communicating effectively in oral and written forms.
  • Following and maintaining safety and sanitary standards.
  • Following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers and customers.
  • Working independently and interacting positively with others.
  • Working under specific instructions, oral and written.
  • Processing information/merchandise through POS register system.
  • Ability to multi-task and perform a variety of duties.
  • Operation of all equipment necessary for café operations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a commercial food service and kitchen work environment; moderate physical requirements, with risk of burns and cuts; repetitive work, frequent lifting, carrying, and moving up to 50 pound containers of food preparation materials and equipment; handle food and hot beverages, frequent use of hand and finger motions and reaching with hands and arms, may require working in a walk-in freezer. Eligibility for position is based on passing the required pre-placement exam.
