Milwaukee Public Schools is actively recruiting candidates for ten paraprofessional positions providing library support in elementary schools across the district. Selected candidates will support library media or instructional technology programs aligned to school and district priorities. The programs promote the use of multiple forms of media supporting literacy development and assisting students as they become effective users of information and the technology skills & tools necessary for college and career readiness. Additionally, they will support the School Library Media Program in accordance with the MPS Digital Learning Plan in an equitable, multi-cultural setting.

This is a 30 hour per week, benefit eligible position requiring eligible applicants to hold 48 college credits or to have successfully completed one of the following Paraprofessional Assessments: WorkKeys ACT, ParaPro Assessment ETS, Paraeducator Master Teacher.

Qualifications

Eligible applicants will need to have completed 48 college credits or successfully completed of one of the following Paraprofessional Assessments:

  • WorkKeys ACT
  • ParaPro Assessment ETS
  • Paraeducator Master Teacher

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a broad knowledge of all facets related to the assignment as related to the subject and grade level of the students. Uses research-proven practices to improve student achievement.
  • Orders and organizes library material for staff and students to check out.
  • Organizes and oversees library events and programs as needed.
  • Reinforces lessons to supplement regular classroom curriculum with additional enrichment activities for students.
  • Supervises students in the library media center and/or provide administrative support for teaching.
  • Maintains library collections to support the educational goals of the school and the personal, developmental and curricular needs of students and teachers.
  • Models the effective and enthusiastic use of books, videos, multimedia and other creative expressions of information as sources of pleasure and information.
  • Uses appropriate classroom management strategies and relates well to the student population.
  • Participates in ongoing professional development activities.
  • Actively supports the MPS Five Priorities for Success.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

The Paraprofessional - Library Support hourly wage starts at $19.02 and increases according to the set salary schedule based on previous years of comparable service.
