RESEARCH TECHNICIAN II

Moody Discovery Laboratory – Duke Human Vaccine Institute

OVERVIEW:

The Moody Discovery Laboratory focuses on understanding the B cell responses during HIV, influenza, and syphilis infection, providing pre-clinical and translational support for downstream human clinical studies that fall within DHVI’s mission of performing research against infectious diseases that impact global health. The lab is a resource for both nonhuman and human cellular phenotyping, flow characterization, staining and analysis at DHVI. Further, the Moody Discovery Laboratory performs a variety of assays to support the DHVI mission; including ELISA and ELLA based assays, RNA/DNA extraction for sequencing, and production of influenza and syphilis proteins. The Research Technician will report directly to the Senior Research Laboratory Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Work with the PI and in harmony with Laboratory Leadership on the Syphilis Program:
    1. Run ELISAs in support of isolating monoclonal antibodies from human and non-human primate samples.
    2. Assist in the production of proteins
      1. Small and large scale
  1. Work with the PI and in harmony with Laboratory Leadership to support the Duke Collaborative Influenza Vaccine Innovation Centers (CIVICs) Vaccine Center (DCVC):
    1. Assist in the production of proteins
      1. Small and large scale
    2. Run lab assays
      1. ELISAS
      2. NAI
      3. Protein conjugations
      4. FPLC
      5. Microscopy
  1. Adhere to established laboratory SOPs for the performance of duties.
  1. Maintain sufficient inventory of material, supplies, and equipment for the performance of duties.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AT THIS LEVEL:

  • Education/Training: Work generally requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field.
  • Experience: None required above education/training requirement. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.

PREFERENCES:

  • Proven organizational skills, communication skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Comfortable providing written and oral updates to multiple levels.
  • Capable of building strong working relationships with internal and external teams.
