Job Description Summary

Provides leadership in supporting the vision, mission and values of the College. Provides leadership and oversight to ensure the quality of the Graduate Education Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs of study through qualified faculty and program support staff. The Assistant Dean of Graduate Practice Educational Programs also works with faculty teaching in the graduate practice education programs to: identify and evaluate their annual professional goals, evaluate their professional development and performance, and identify areas and activities for future career growth.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications: Earned doctorate in nursing or related discipline, record of scholarly productivity, experience in academic leadership roles and evidence of effective leadership, experience in online teaching, positive interpersonal skills and organizational abilities.

Rank: Associate or Full Professor

Formal Accountability: Reports to the Associate Dean of Academics for DNP program activities and collaborates, where appropriate, with the Associate Dean for practice for DNP program practice activities.. Works closely with the Office of Student Services in student related activities and concerns.

Responsibilities:
1.    Administrative and Leadership: 
a.    Promotes integrity, respect, and a positive college organizational culture.
b.    With the Associate Dean for Academics, the Associate Dean for Research, Associate Dean for Practice, Program Leads, and faculty member, establishes faculty work assignments to include teaching, scholarship, practice, service and other responsibilities.
c.    Provides ongoing evaluation including annual faculty performance based upon mutually determined goals and expectations. Works with faculty to complete and update annually, 5-year professional growth plans. 
d.    Consults, counsels, guides, and writes letters of recommendation/support for faculty seeking promotion. 
e.    Meets with faculty who are not achieving successful e-value scores and outlines process improvement plans (PIP) and follows up to ensure success.
f.    Prepares and works with the Associate Dean for Academics and Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration, in planning and overseeing the programs budget.
i.    Tracks the finances of DNP education and makes recommendations based on projected needs and activities.
ii.    Seeks and mentors faculty in seeking funding for the program and student program financial support. 
g.    Promotes a learning environment that encourages the highest rigor of clinical expertise and scholarship in faculty and DNP student related program outcomes.
h.    Directs an ongoing quality improvement process to ensure the integrity of the curriculum and learning, as evidenced by student outcomes and comparable program benchmarks.
i.    Meets with faculty to outline needed changes in courses based on e-value scores and changes courses to align program needs.
j.    Make recommendations for on-going faculty contracts, insures contract needs are submitted before each semester with needs and cost.
k.    Insures there is a process for online orientation for all clinical faculty and preceptors.
l.    Stays informed to provide leadership for the development of future goals for the DNP program based on regional and  national trends and data.
m.    Facilitates the development of curricula maps that map DNP and specialty essentials in the programs, outlines where all competencies are met as well as National Task Force on Quality Nurse Practitioner Education guidelines.
n.    Collects, monitors, and analyzes evaluative DNP program data to inform program/curriculum improvements. 
o.    Provides direction in determining the capacity, marketing and recruitment of the DNP programs.
p.    Promotes scholarly networking and communication among students, other doctoral programs, scholars, and the community at large.
q.    Collaborates with the offices of technology to enhance and promote faculty and student development in the use of educational technology, distributive learning, and requirements for student online teaching.
r.    Promotes clinical linkages between students and campus faculty that align with and benefit from the MUSC campus centers of excellence.
s.    Collaborates with the Undergraduate Program Director to institute activities that familiarize and encourage baccalaureate students to seek graduate study.
t.    Serves on the Graduate Program Committee, guiding faculty to plan, implement, and refine the program and policies.
u.    Represents the College of Nursing through participation in Interprofessional and professional activities.

2.    Program Administration:
a.    Assists the Associate Dean for Academics with required evaluation and accreditation activities for the DNP program of study.
b.    Provides oversight and manages the work of the Graduate Program Director, as it relates to the DNP program, in planning, directing, and evaluating the  DNP orientation program.
c.    Participates on all DNP program grants to ensure grant requirements are met and evaluations are completed.
i.    Assists the Associate Dean of Academics to seek funding for the program and student financial support.
ii.    Consults and collaborates with the Associate Dean for Practice for practice funding opportunities. 
d.    Reviews and updates all marketing publications, website, and handbooks for quality and accuracy of content.
e.    Identifies policies and procedures for online teaching in the DNP program.
f.    Works with the Graduate Program Coordinator to ensure DNP student representation on appropriate College committees and task forces. 
g.    Evaluates, works with lead faculty and makes recommendations related to DNP program preceptors.
h.    Participates in the recruitment and orientation of faculty for the DNP programs of study.
i.    Works with lead faculty to plan and direct the student Learning Intensives. 
j.    Works with DNP program Lead Faculty and Residency Coordinator to review and approve MSN to DNP project planning and implementation. 
k.    Works with DNP Lead Faculty to monitor student progression through the DNP program using completed semester hours and transition points of the DNP project.
l.    Works with DNP Program Lead Faculty to monitor student advisement, follow up with students on all academic warnings, ensures that program plans of study are up to date, signed, and on file. 
m.    Works with DNP Program Lead Faculty and Residency Coordinator to review, provide feedback, and approve DNP project proposals and DNP projects defenses.
n.    Collaborates with IT and Student Services in maintaining an up-to-date DNP student database, Myfolio and student profiles.

3.    DNP Program Student Development:
a.    Promotes the socialization of students into roles of expert clinician and health care leader.
b.    Recognizes students by facilitating the submission of applications and nominations for student-based awards.
c.    Meets with students each semester and discusses issues, bringing the relevant issues to faculty and faculty assembly to provide continuous process improvement.
d.    Directs, assists, and resolves problems encountered by faculty members and students related to the DNP program teaching.
e.    Works with DNP Program Lead Faculty in providing guidance/advisement in student academic progression and achievement.
f.    Reviews with the Graduate Program Coordinator and Director of Student Services student program exit surveys to inform necessary program revisions.
