REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation
CLASSIFICATION: Classified
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year as reviewed and established annually by the
Board of Education.
EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated regularly in accordance with the Board’s policy on the evaluation of classified staff. Additional evaluations may be submitted at the discretion of the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources.
JOB SUMMARY:
Assist the Director of Transportation of the Waynesville R-VI School District in the efficient operation of the school transportation department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Answers the phone and greets all visitors and staff in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner.
  2. Receives bus driver and bus aide applications and all related employment paperwork.
  3. Keeps an accurate accounting of all work schedules, absentee and payroll reports.
  4. Keeps a record of driver qualification information including CDL license, bus operator permit, physical exams and any other pertinent records.
  5. Assists with ordering and record keeping of bus parts and supplies, when required. Assists with the tracking of documents between vendors and the Operational Services office.
  6. Processes the Transportation staff payroll and manages all payroll information/paperwork on file.
  7. Maintains the Transportation department budget.
  8. Processes all work orders through maintenance and media help desk for the Transportation department.
  9. Assists with dispatching when needed.
  10. Maintains all fuel logs, orders needed fuel.
  11. Maintains the van and SUV usage schedule.
  12. Prepares post-accident reports and makes copies for the Operations department.
  13. Schedules annual physical exams for all school bus drivers.
  14. Assists Director with investigation of school bus accidents.
  15. Provides a MO Driver Record semiannually for each driver.
  16. Provides accurate information to the Director for reports.
  17. Collaborates with all staff as needed.
  18. Other duties as assigned by the Transportation Director.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The individual must be able to perform each essential job duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The following requirements are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities needed to perform the job at a fully acceptable level.

  1. Office management with clerical skills.
  2. Knowledge of inventory and accounting procedures.
  3. Personable, courteous, and friendly with people.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND/OR CERTIFICATION

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. One-year certificate from college, technical school or equivalent from accredited university with specialized coursework in business administration, secretarial science, or related field preferred.
  3. Minimum of five years of increasingly responsible secretarial and administrative experience preferably in a public school district setting.
  4. Experience in public school transportation desired.
  5. Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
  6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may deem appropriate or acceptable.

  1. Ability to speak clearly and effectively over a radio communications system.
  2. Strong communication, public relation, and interpersonal skills.
  3. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback.
  4. Ability to compose correspondence, reports, and/or other required written materials.
  5. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret information.
  6. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions, inquiries, and/or complaints.
  7. Displays courtesy, tact, and respect when dealing with others.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  1. Ability to perform basic math using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals consistent with the duties of this position.

The employee is required to assist distraught and/or angry persons. Employee experiences constant interruptions and inflexible deadlines. The noise level in this environment is quiet to moderate. Duties are performed primarily indoors and occasionally outdoors. In-district and out-of-town travel required as necessary for training and/or to carry out duties and responsibilities.
