This position is for the 2021-22 school year (beginning August 2021).

Work Hours: 1.0 FTE DPF position (43 weeks)

Function: The function of the School Improvement District Program Facilitator (DPF) is to support schools identified for support and improvement by the Minnesota Department of Education with engaging in meaningful, equity-driven continuous school improvement processes that will lead to improved student outcomes and the closing of achievement gaps, as well as support school improvement efforts across the district through professional development. The School Improvement DPF accomplishes this by directly working with school administrators, leadership teams, and staff at schools identified for support and improvement, and by participating as a member of Network Teams in collaboration with staff across departments and levels.

The School Improvement DPF will:

  • Meet regularly on-site with assigned schools’ administrative teams and collective leadership teams to support the equity-driven continuous school improvement process and successful completion of activities required by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)
  • Assist school administrators and collective leadership teams at assigned schools with designing and delivering a professional development program aligned to the school’s school improvement plan
  • In collaboration with colleagues on the Network Team, develop capacity to support assigned schools’ with engaging in an equity-driven continuous school improvement process, in alignment with implementation science best practices
  • In collaboration with colleagues in Teaching & Learning, Special Education, Multilingual, Equity/PSWE/SEL, College and Career Readiness, Office of Black Student Achievement and Indian Education departments, develop and provide technical tools, support, and guidance to assigned schools as they work to implement the district’s strategic priorities of multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS), social emotional learning (SEL), equity, and literacy
  • In collaboration with colleagues in Accountability, Research & Equity, support systems-level progress monitoring of schools’ improvement processes and student outcomes, to inform data-driven decision-making at district leadership levels
  • In collaboration with colleagues in Teaching & Learning and other departments, develop and facilitate the professional learning program for teachers and staff, in alignment with the district’s strategic priorities of MTSS, SEL, equity, and literacy
  • Enthusiastically support the mission and vision of Minneapolis Public Schools and the district’s strategic plan
  • Other duties as assigned to support the goals of the Comprehensive & Targeted Support and Improvement (CSI/TSI) grant and Title II programs


  • Valid Minnesota teaching license
  • Minimum of 3 years of successful teaching experience; experience in MPS preferred
  • Experience improving student achievement
  • Experience with mentoring, coaching, and/or some aspect of teacher leadership; experience with mentoring or coaching school administrators preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional collaboration with colleagues
  • Demonstrated commitment to educational equity and experience working effectively with students and staff of racially diverse backgrounds
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Highly Preferred: Demonstrated expertise in math or literacy
  • Preferred: Knowledge of the Minnesota state plan for implementing the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), especially the state’s school accountability system and requirements for schools identified for support and improvement
  • Preferred: Experience designing and facilitating professional development for adult learners
  • Preferred: Experience serving on an Instructional Leadership Team, Equity & Engagement Team, or similar collective leadership team within a school
  • Preferred: Experience with leading school improvement or continuous improvement processes, including implementing and progress monitoring evidence-based strategies, especially in schools identified for support and improvement through the state’s accountability system
  • Preferred: Knowledge of implementation science or improvement science best practices within education

DPF positions are 43-week assignments. The additional four (4) weeks beyond the 39-week teacher contract will be determined by the manager
