VCU Health System's Internal Medicine - Hematology/ Oncology is seeking a fulltime PhysicianAssistant to provide medical and/or surgical care and treatment to aspecific patient population under the supervision of physician(s). Providesdiagnostic, therapeutic and/or preventive healthcare service, as delegated by aphysician. May perform any or all of the following: histories and physicals;order and interpret tests; make preliminary diagnosis; treat injuries/illness;assist with surgical procedures; counsel patient and/or prescribe medicationand those invasive procedures defined by the Virginia Board of Medicine.Works collaboratively with the medical team to deliver organized, timely, costeffective and quality patient care. May supervise support staff.
The PhysicianAssistant will provide patient care under defined departmental and stateapproved scope of practice and under the supervision of an attendingphysician(s). The level of supervision will be commensurate with the complexityof the patient's condition and as approved by the Board of Medicine. Theseprotocols are acknowledged by the Physician Assistant and all of thesupervising physicians.
Clinical decisionmaking in collaboration with physicians and daily prioritization of activities.
May supervise and/orcoordinate the activities of other medical and support staff as it relates topatient care.
Based on area ofassignment, may be required to work evenings, nights, weekends and holidays andrequired to take call.
Work schedules aresubject to change based on patient and service needs.
Graduate of anaccredited Physician Assistant Program
Successful completionof the Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam (PANCE)
Current license as aPhysician Assistant by the Virginia Board of Medicine
Current CPR and BLScertifications
Current ACLScertification where needed
Current prescriptiveauthority/licensure by the Virginia Board of Medicine
Credentialing inaccordance with medical staff by-laws for specific job title
Previous clinicalexperience with the population served
Three (3) years ofprevious clinical experience with the population served
Previous experience inan academic healthcare system
