Description

  • Generate various financial reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis to provide status of assigned funds to management and/or remain compliant with federal, state or local agency guidelines.
  • Review special revenue accounting transactions and supporting documentation for accuracy, completeness and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, Texas Education
  • Agency guidelines, and applicable policies and laws.
  • Reconcile and perform analysis for assigned programs weekly, monthly, annually, and at the end of the fiscal year and funding period; determine and record necessary accruals and other adjustments in the proper period; and obtain necessary supporting documentation for any proposed adjustments.
  • Research and resolve issues requiring correction of errors that are brought to the attention of grants accounting by departments and schools throughout the district.
  • Take lead role in payroll, accounts receivable and accounts payable reconciliation processes.
  • Complete various daily functions for special revenue funds as needed (i.e. journal entries, budget transfers, reimbursement requests, deposits, etc.)
  • Provide training and support for grant accounting staff and serve as liaison between the Grant
  • Accounting department and the special revenue budgeting and financial systems support departments
  • Participate in the preparation of year-end work papers, Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA) and the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).
  • Test any new updates to the accounting software to ensure that all accounting entries are processed and posted to the General Ledger properly.
  • Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Five years of directly related experience in accounting financial analysis, and budgeting in a fund environment and 3 years of grants accounting experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, procedures, and their application to a variety of accounting audits, transactions, and problems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of financial research and report preparation methods and techniques.
  • Demonstrated computer skills, specifically with MS Windows, MS Office Professional, and financial systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the analysis and interpretation of financial data and the ability to analyze, interpret, and prepare a variety of financial statements and reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and local law and regulations pertaining to accounting.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with diverse groups, maintaining confidentiality, meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; and working with detailed information/data.
