Summary of Position:

The 6-12 ELA and Reading district program facilitator supports curriculum, instruction, assessment, content integration and professional development for all secondary schools.

This position will be responsible for:

  • Providing leadership to all aspects of the District's secondary English Language Arts, Reading, Literacy, and Multi Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).
  • Facilitating the implementation of secondary ELA, reading, and literacy standards and tiered instruction and ensuring equitable access to ELA/reading instructional materials and MTSS supports.
  • Developing, coordinating and delivering professional development and related services to all grade 6-12 content teachers, principals and other school and district staff.
  • Developing and providing ongoing support of the MTSS model with all stakeholders.
  • Building capacity with school leadership teams and teachers across content areas to incorporate proven instructional practices to promote high levels of literacy among all student groups.
  • Supporting the implementation of a 6-12 literacy plan that outlines best practices for literacy across all content areas.
  • Collaborating with other members of the academic team around district priorities in SEL, Equity, Literacy, and MTSS.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Valid Minnesota teaching license in secondary English Language Arts (5-8 or 7-12) or secondary Communication Arts/Literature
  • Valid Minnesota reading license (preferred).
  • Advanced degree in education or educational leadership (preferred but not required).

Experience:

  • A minimum of five years of teaching experience with evidence of culturally responsive pedagogy teaching culturally, linguistically, ethnically diverse students.
  • A track record of leading students to make significant academic gains (more than a year’s growth in a year’s time).
  • Experience developing high quality core curriculum for secondary ELA and preferred experience developing reading curriculum.
  • Experience with culturally sustaining curriculum development, analysis and delivery using effective formative assessment strategies.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership and coaching skills in working with adults.
  • Experience planning, facilitating, and evaluating high-quality, culturally sustaining professional development.
  • Experience coaching adults in data literacy, data software, and program implementation, coursework and experience facilitating MTSS in secondary (6-12) settings.
  • Experience with literacy integration and collaboration with other content areas.

7. Capacity to develop, articulate, and carry through a vision for the secondary ELA and Reading programs that excels student achievement for historically underserved populations while accelerating the achievement for all students

8. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written

9. Ability to work collaboratively and creatively with colleagues

10. Demonstrated effective leadership and coaching skills with teachers, students, principals and other staff

11. Knowledge of and an ability to utilize a variety of current technological tools for communication, planning, documentation, and professional development

12. Ability to support integration of MN ELA and literacy standards across content areas

Position Functions, Duties, Responsibilities:

  1. Implement strategies that reduce/eliminate racial disparities in student outcome and course enrollments.
  2. Support implementation of the Minneapolis Public School’s core educational program in ELA instruction, including instructional models which ensure integration of reading, writing, speaking, and listening across content areas.
  3. Ensure that strategies for specific students, including English learner support, Special Education services, and advanced learner support are integrated seamlessly into secondary core curriculum and professional development.
  4. Maintain secondary ELA and reading catalog to ensure viable graduation pathways.
  5. Ensure alignment of ELA and reading curricula, instructional practices, and assessments with the Minnesota academic standards.
  6. Support the implementation of Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) model of differentiated instruction and tiered intervention processes with a focus on 6-12 Literacy across sites.
  7. Lead teams inclusive of all stakeholders in developing, vetting, and revising integrated units of study and interim and formative assessments.
  8. Lead the process of creating/adopting instructional materials which support standards-based teaching and learning and integration of literacy and content.
  9. Design and lead professional development on ELA, reading, and literacy curriculum, instruction, and assessment for school leaders and teachers.
  10. Build the capacity of school leadership teams to support continuous improvement in teaching and learning at the site.

Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned. There may be times when required to work outside normal business hours and work extended hours to accomplish requirements of the position.
