General Statement of Duties

Assigned to the Treasury Division Back Office unit of the Department of Finance, this position is responsible for performing financial transactions, billing, and collecting taxes, and accurately processing and verifying receivables, adjustments, daily deposits, and transactional activity. The ideal candidate is organized, proficient and capable of managing high-volume workloads across multiple platforms all while delivering excellent customer service internally and externally.
Essential Duties
Customer Service & Communication
- Display excellent customer service and communication skills in writing, in person, and by phone by interacting with the public and staff respectfully, tactfully, and professionally.
- Explain billing, penalties, and tax-related processes to customers through in-person, phone, and email communication.
- Interpret and apply policies, procedures, and regulations to ensure compliance.
- Respond to public inquiries as part of the Automatic Call Distribution (ACD) team.
Payment Processing & Account Management
- Basic knowledge of accounting principles and billing systems.
- Proficient with computers, business software, and financial systems.
- Ability to learn new technology and procedures quickly and adapt to change in policy, procedures, and laws.
- Accurately enter and maintain financial data in the appropriate systems of record.
- Perform accurate account adjustments on Personal Property, Real Estate, and Business accounts, including complex account reviews.
- Work with Treasury-related systems, including ACH and leasing company platforms.
- Process payments, manage daily settlements, and reconcile accounts accurately.
- Process and distribute incoming office mail accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate financial records, reports, and documentation in accordance with County policies.
- Familiarity with tax rates, pro-ration, PPTRA, and local government procedures is preferred.

- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize competing tasks to execute daily workflow efficiently to meet deadlines and service standards.
- Demonstrate flexibility as schedule and responsibilities vary based on staffing and volume.

- Engage with team members, other departments, and leadership to streamline processes, make suggestions, and implement improvements.
- Follow directions from leadership to support department and County goals.
- Uphold professional integrity and confidentiality in all duties.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school with relevant coursework completed at the high school or college level and two (2) years of relevant work experience in customer service, cash operations, or accounting support; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Additional Information
Requires successful completion of the Treasurer's Association of Virginia's class Customer Service within four (4) years of employment.
Requires successful completion of the Treasurer's Association of Virginia's class Introduction to Government Accounting if the employee is new to local government accounting, also within four (4) years of employment.
May require a valid driver's license to perform assigned duties at both government center locations as assigned.
