Description
  1. Inspects, estimates, constructs, installs modifies, repairs and/or replaces;
    1. Various ceilings and flooring systems and their respective structural support systems
    2. Wood roof structural support systems
    3. Interior and exterior doors and windows and associated trim, hardware, weather-stripping, etc.
    4. Casework, cabinet work and associated trim, finishes, etc.
    5. Various metal and wood partitions and walls and associated trim, finishes, etc.
    6. Various curbs, platforms and other miscellaneous wood structures.
    7. Insulated panels and associated trim
    8. Concrete formwork on bridge beams, roadways, sidewalks, piers, stairways, ramps, curbs, etc.
  2. Navigates Computerized Maintenance Management Software system (preferably in AssetWORKS) for trade related work orders, budget targets, etc.
  3. Operates, maintains equipment related to the trade.

Pay: $41.91 per hour

THE SELECTION PROCESS: will be job related and will consist of one or more of the following: education and experience evaluation; written, oral or performance tests; or other assessment methods. The Office of Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified candidates to oral and performance examinations. Oral examinations may include written exercises. Selection process component weights will be determined by further analysis of the job.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Journeyman Certification from an accredited organization.
  • Valid State of Wisconsin Motor Vehicle operator’s license and availability of properly insured personal vehicle at time of appointment and throughout employment.
  • Certification in the EPA Asbestos Abatement Training Program (O&M) within 6 months of appointment*
  • Silica Hazard Awareness Training within first month of appointment.*
  • Certification in the Lead Safe Renovator Training Program within 6 months of appointment.*
  • Scaffolding Hazard Awareness (User and Erector) Training Certification within 6 months of appointment.*
  • Fall Protection Competent Person Training Certification within 6 months of appointment.*
  • Completion of additional, assigned Safety & Health Training, within 6 months of appointment*

*Training and/or testing will be provided by MPS but employee must obtain the certification within the time allotted.

  • Five (5) years of experience at a journeyman carpenter work level
  • Five (5) years of experience in operating within a Computerized Maintenance Management Software system (preferably in AssetWORKS)

Responsibilities

  1. Ability to install, repair, modify, etc. of a variety floors, ceilings, structural supports, doors, windows, casework, cabinet work, wall , partitions, curbs, platforms, panels, forms, etc. and associated trim, hardware, etc.
  2. Experience in repairing various garage/overhead doors, springs, cables, pulleys, etc.;
  3. Experience in all phases of mill work and operational knowledge of various millwork equipment including but not limited to; panel saws, shapers, jointers, planers, band saws, etc.
  4. Ability to estimate and allocate manpower, materials and equipment related to the trade.
  5. Ability to take direction and work effectively as a member of a team.
  6. The ability to develop effective working relationships with diverse individuals at all levels
  7. Demonstrates professional conduct at all times.
  8. Committed to continuous improvement within trade and the organization in whole
  9. Displays quality work through accuracy and attention to detail.
  10. Knowledge of construction terminology and practices, construction materials, safe working practices, basic math including basic geometry
  11. Ability to organize resources and establish priorities.
  12. Ability to work independently at times with minimal direction.
  13. Actively supports the MPS Strategic Plan.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.
