General Statement of Duties
This position will work collaboratively with the school-based mental health teams (school counselor, school social worker, and school psychologist) to implement a clinical school-based outpatient therapy program for Henrico County Public Schools. Position is primarily responsible for providing identified students with services such as individual, group, and family therapy; monitoring student progress; crisis intervention; assessment, treatment, consultative services, outreach and advocacy.
Direct clinical services will include therapy (individual, group, and family) and consultation with educators and families to promote student success. The position(s) are responsible for managing referrals, triaging cases, maintaining client records, and completing other paperwork as necessary. As part of the array of clinical work, the licensed mental health professional(s) will provide more intensive mental health services for youth with DSM 5 Clinical Diagnoses that impact daily functioning and success at school. This is an in-person 12-month position.
Essential Duties
The selected individual(s) will provide a broad range of clinical services including:
- Implementing a school-based outpatient therapy program, in collaboration with school-based mental health team members, for identified HCPS students.
- Clinical assessments and evaluation (including diagnostic assessments).
- Providing families with information related to the needs of their child and acting as a resource to parents/guardians.
- Conducting individual, group and family therapy sessions to students who have been identified through a defined referral process as experiencing moderate to severe distress and/or moderately to severely impaired functioning.
- Communicating and collaborating with school staff and treatment team providers (Primary Care Practitioner (PCP), Psychiatrist, In-Home Counselor, etc.) to provide wrap-around services and supports.
- Timely completion of records, documentation, and/or treatment plans for each student receiving therapy services.
- School-wide and crisis intervention, as needed.
- Providing consultation and serving as a resource to teachers, administrators, school staff, and caregivers.
- Collaborating with the school-based mental health team to provide the school community with education and training regarding the promotion of positive student mental health, based on need.
- Modeling non discriminatory practices in all activities.
- Potential to provide clinical supervision to Residents in Counseling or Supervisees in Social work.
- Performing any other related duties as assigned by the School Mental Health Clinical Supervisor and/or the Director of Student Support and Wellness.
- Attending and participating in monthly case consultation and team meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
Must possess a full, active, unrestricted Virginia Department of Health Professionals clinical license (LCSW or LPC) in the State of Virginia. At least 3 years of post-licensure experience providing individual, group, and family therapy as well as crisis intervention for school aged children; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the noted knowledge, skills, and abilities, is preferred. Must possess a demonstrated knowledge and understanding of trauma informed care, a variety of scientifically-backed treatment modalities, and current evidence based practices. Must possess excellent communications skills (written and oral) and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, families, staff, and outside agencies. Preferred candidate(s) have, or are eligible to obtain, the qualifications required to supervise Residents in Counseling or Supervisees in Social Work.
Additional Information
The minimum salary for this 12-month, 260 day position is $82,944. Annual salaries are prorated based upon the actual work begin date.
