General Statement of Duties

This position entails teaching knowledge and skills necessary for the operation of utility and heavy equipment operation. The candidate will be able to demonstrate and have expertise in operating bulldozers, excavators, loaders, and other heavy machinery, emphasizing proper techniques. Emphasis will be placed on safety protocols, use of equipment and tools, compliance with industry standards and effective communication and organization. The selected candidate will be required to gain a valid Virginia Technical Professional License, hold a current OSHA 510 certification and be able to obtain OSHA 500 Trainer certification.


  • This is a full-time 11 month position.
  • The contract for this position begins on July 1, 2024.




Essential Duties

Program Duties and Expectations:

  • Teach theory and practical application of utility and heavy equipment operation
  • Coordinate with staff to participate in the house building project managed by the HCVTEF where applicable
  • Develop business partnerships that support program goals
  • Sponsor an active student organization SkillsUSA and support student participate in competitions
  • Maintain complete records of student performance and attendance
  • Maintain a learning environment and atmosphere conducive to safe, orderly, and effective instruction
  • Make effective use of new technologies in the delivery of instruction
  • Participate in a variety of activities to keep professional skills, curriculum, and instruction current
  • Attends work daily and be engaged in job responsibilities
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, community, and school personnel
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Physical Duties:

  • Duties include the ability to lift and carry students involved in patient scenarios and heavy, bulky supplies, materials and equipment over varying terrain.
  • Work may involve some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which requires following basic OSHA safety precautions and standards.
  • Ability to use a variety of instruments during the demonstration of treatments.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must hold or be eligible for a teaching license or Technical Professional License in the state of VA.
  • Must possess their CDL license or obtained within first year of employment.
  • Current OSHA 510 certification required with expectation to be OSHA 500 Trainer certified within first year of employment.

Additional Information

This is an 11- Month/ 239-day teaching assignment. The annual compensation amount will be prorated to the official start date.

Minimum annual starting salary:
      • $63,921.05 Bachelors
      • $66,989.42 Masters
