District Mentor Teacher

The role of the District Mentor Teacher (DMT) is to provide mentoring support to new educators throughout their first year as an MPS teacher. The DMT provides mentoring around classroom management, instructional practices, and district related systems. All District Mentor Teachers must complete mentor training and fully utilize the New Teacher Center mentoring curriculum, practices, and reporting system when providing support to new educators. District Mentor Teachers must additionally provide professional development, seminars, and training sessions to new educators, school-based mentors, and district staff

Salary Range: $60,987.04 - $114,217.31 (200-day)

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• A current license from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
• A minimum of five (5) years of exemplary/proficient classroom teaching experience in an urban/metropolitan district as a fully licensed teacher.
• A bachelor's degree.

Preferred Qualifications

• A master's degree in an education-related field.
• Experience mentoring beginning teachers in a full-release mentoring model.
• Recent urban teaching experience and experience leading and designing professional development.
• Experience mentoring and supporting beginning new teachers in an unreleased mentoring model as a buddy or school-based mentor.
• Proficient in using MS Office software, including MS Word and Excel, and knowledge of other programs and various forms of technology.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provides support and assistance to the District Induction Specialist. Manages the caseloads in assigned area.
• Attends mandatory meetings to keep updated on current events and the status of teachers in caseload.
• Works with supervisors to differentiate support of new educators and permit teachers. Establishes an induction support system for educators to share information at the district and school level.
• Develops and coordinates professional development sessions for Induction Specialists.
• Collaborates with various district personnel and departments to provide support that leads to improved instruction and student achievement.
• Participates in the development and implementation of the New Educator Institute.
• Participates in the development and implementation of monthly New Educator Seminars.
• Provides guidance and support to new district educators.
• Actively supports Induction's commitment to support the educator effectiveness model.
• Actively supports the MPS Five Priorities for Success.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
