General Statement of Duties
Under the guidance of the classroom teacher, the Instructional Assistant provides essential support with the implementation of the instructional program for English Language Learners.
Essential Duties
Under the guidance of the teacher, this individual assists with all aspects of instructional programming including helping to produce instructional materials, maintain the smooth functioning of the classroom, prepare the classroom for instruction, and work with individual students or small groups when assigned.
- Monitors students as designated
- Provides one on one or small group instruction with students when directed by the teacher
- Assists with instruction as supervised by the teacher
- Collects data on student performance and progress directed by the teacher
- Assists with collecting and distributing materials as directed by teacher
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds frequently and 25 to 50 pounds occasionally, and may assist, move, or restrain students when required to intervene in student safety issues. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, lift, walk, stand, and hear.
General knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in special education classrooms; ability to maintain records and confidentiality; ability to operate audio visual, standard office and computer equipment; ability to operate adaptive equipment; and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, parents, students and administrators.
Must be at least 18 years old and hold a high school diploma or equivalent. 42 semester hours from an accredited college or university is preferred.
Additional Information
The minimum salary for this 10-month/204-day/7.25 hour per day position is $29,191. The annual salary for this position will be prorated based upon the official start date.
This position is supported by special revenue funds. Continuation of the position and employment agreement is contingent upon the annual review and continued availability of these specific funds.
