Description
The Cumberland Valley School District, a leader in public education in Pennsylvania, seeks a highly qualified candidate for the position of High School Principal.
As the educational leader of the school, the High School Principal is responsible for the administration and supervision of the school in a manner that creates the optimum learning environment necessary to promote the educational development of each student.
The successful candidate for this position will supervise, coordinate, and schedule all professional and support personnel working in the high school. While candidates can present themselves with a variety of backgrounds, all must possess either a Pennsylvania K-12 Principal certification or Secondary Principal Certification and a Master’s degree. Experience as a high school administrator or secondary building principal is preferred.
Cumberland Valley is looking for a proven instructional leader who can demonstrate success in the following areas:
inspiring and leading the development and implementation of a shared vision to promote excellence and support transformation throughout the organization.
creating, promoting, and sustaining a dynamic digital-age learning culture that provides a rigorous, relevant, engaging education for all students.
collecting, monitoring, and analyzing data that contribute to increasing the academic achievement of all students, particularly students in historically under performing groups.
ensuring consistency in teaching and learning.
utilizing professional staff fully for what they are hired to do, teach and support students.
actively promoting and planning for acceleration, enrichment, and remediation for all students.
providing real-time academic, social, and emotional supports for all students.
supporting a robust program of career realated work experiences, work study, and apprenticeships.
managing the depth and breadth of the academic program described by utilizing innovative scheduling and educational delivery systems that increase the instructional capacity of the facility.
communicating effectively in speaking, writing, and listening while efficiently using social media.
Cumberland Valley’s high school principal will be expected to lead the following strategic objectives:
Ensure that all students meet Pennsylvania requirements for a high school diploma and have equal opportunity in doing so.
Integrate technology that will allow a continuum of learning opportunities from the traditional classroom infused with technology, to digitally blended, to fully on-line for students, faculty, and staff.
Connect educational programs to the economy through the development of viable pathways for life-long learning that prepare every student to aggressively compete in local, state, national, and/or global marketplaces.
Develop partnerships with educational, governmental, and business and industry organizations to provide students a continuum of opportunities that are aligned and articulated with local employers, trade and technical schools/colleges, Harrisburg Area Community College and our local PASHE Universities.
Support a continuum of opportunities based on students’ individual talents that develop specific knowledge, immediately marketable skills, the ability to problem solve and persevere, and the clear understanding that one’s life-long earnings are dependent on life-long learning.
Ensure the high school’s graduation requirements, curriculum, educational programs, instructional practices, professional and support staff functions, guidelines and procedures, schedule, budget, facility usage and calendar support the mission, philosophy, goals and initiatives of the Cumberland Valley School District Strategic Plan.
Sustain the robust traditional academic and vocational programs that meet the needs of many students, while developing diverse pathways of differentiated academic and experiential opportunities that will prepare CV graduates to transition to the economy either directly after high school or through additional post-secondary education and experiences.
Review and manage the organizational chart at the high school and related job descriptions to effectively, efficiently, and safely manage and lead a 3000-student learning environment that is dynamic, infused with technology, emphasizes personalization, innovative, and adapts with changes in the economy, technology, job market, and best educational practices.
Respect and embrace diversity while maintaining long-standing traditions and placing emphasis on traditions and customs that help our students foster a sense of community and citizenship while being open to developing new ones.
Joining an outstanding administrative team of central office and building level leaders and one of the finest high school faculties in the Commonwealth, the successful candidate will be mentored by the Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education to assure a smooth transition to the school district and continuity of program for our students.
