Occupational Summary:
Report to, and work closely with the Digital Communications leadership as a member of the Emmy award-winning team of videographers, developers, and writers, serving the strategic needs of the University.

As the Digital Graphic Designer, you will:

  • Effectively balance diverse projects - both concept and execution: short and longform stories/layout; custom graphics for promotional material across web and social channels; marketing and promotional campaigns; strategic site designs; develop illustrations, logos, and other artefacts; daily email graphics; and short animations.
  • Be responsible for the design and execution of Duke branded assets, design components and layouts; communicate brand standards and usage.
  • Stay current with and use contemporary practices, trends and technologies in layout, design and production of text and graphics for both print and online media, with an emphasis on accessibility and usability standards across storytelling platforms.
  • Participate in and lead conversations with creative team members, project stakeholders and the wider communications community.
  • Propose new ideas or projects and/or major overhauls of existing projects; review creative briefs.
  • Be accountable for: managing time and production schedules; providing regular status updates; determining execution paths and level of effort; providing and receiving feedback on artwork for/from colleagues; assisting in training personnel.

The skills and experience you bring:

  • Considerable knowledge and skill in graphic design and digital animation methods and techniques
  • A strong portfolio
  • An eye for detail and creative approach and the ability to analyze and interpret visual needs of communication pieces
  • The ability to provide feedback, facilitate collaboration, and work as part of a team
  • Proficiency with design and animation production tools such as Photoshop and other Adobe Suite applications; Microsoft Office applications

Minimum Qualifications

BA/BS in graphic arts, fine arts or related field required.

Two years of directly related Graphic Communications and Design experience.
