General Statement of Duties
This 12-months, 260-days position is located at the Central Transportation Office This individual will serve as HR Assistant to the entire transportation department.
This vacancy is open until filled. Starting annual salary is $47,788.15 (Note for the 2025/2026 school year: This position is available on 7/1/25)
The employee in this classification is responsible for providing and performing a variety of pre-and continuing employment activities and functions for all staff within the Department
Essential Duties
- Reviews all new candidate applications and driving records needed for employment to ensure all necessary documents are received; follows up with candidates for incomplete documents; provides weekly updates to department leadership team.
· Assists candidates for positions within the department, ensuring their understanding of all requirements, and documenting their progress. Supports monthly Job Fairs on site
· Maintains and monitors DMV records for bus drivers for changes in driving records, to include unreported violations
· Maintains list of department employees and school activity drivers holding a Commercial Drivers’ License and subject to drug and alcohol testing.
· Receives information and processes employment forms for new and existing employees (new hires, changes, resignations, etc.)
· Coordinates with Human Resources staff and schedules new and existing employees for pre-screening and orientation sessions
· Schedules pre-employment alcohol, drug screenings and physical exams for new drivers and annual physical exams for existing drivers
· Queries the National Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse for new and existing drivers
· Processes employment verifications
· Assists employees with resetting passwords as requested
· Maintains and keeps confidential files of correspondence, forms, reports, etc. and scans to electronic personnel file
· Maintains computerized records and generates appropriate reports
· Communicates effectively and professionally with the public, school staff, parents and personnel from other departments or agencies
· Answers telephone, provides information, take and dispatch messages and telephone calls during peak times of operation
· Provides information to the public and responds to general inquiries regarding departmental matters
· Attends work regularly and is actively engaged in work activities
· Performs related work as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; general knowledge of standard office practices, procedures and equipment; ability to type accurately and at a reasonable rate of speed; ability to answer inquiries and assist the general public in a courteous manner; ability to operate a variety of office equipment; skill in the use of data, spreadsheet and word processing software; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; ability to follow oral and written instructions, ability to work well under pressure; ability to organize and perform work independently; ability to maintain the highest levels of confidentiality.
