General Statement of Duties

Performs supervisory duties in planning and directing the work of a group of human services program workers; does related work as required.

Essential Duties

This position is responsible for supervising, planning and directing the work of a team of Human Services Specialists.

Essential duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Direct supervision of human services specialists who manage responsibilities of accurate and timely determination of eligibility and case management for public assistance benefit programs.
  • General supervisory responsibilities that include staff development, one-on-one supervisor consultations, completing performance reviews and performance management including the discipline process as needed.
  • Participation in the recruitment, hiring, training and onboarding of new employees.
  • Creating, maintaining & reviewing program reports & spreadsheets to manage the work and to collect data and statistics for reporting purposes.
  • Participation in agency workgroups to ensure accuracy and compliance with program requirements and promote the agency’s strategic plan.
  • Gathering and summarizing statistical data related to program outcomes and community needs to support programmatic functions and needed changes.

The person in this position should possess:

  • Strong knowledge of federal and state programs including SNAP, Medicaid, TANF, Long-term Care, Energy Assistance, General Relief and other benefits programs.
  • The ability and desire to lead, develop and support staff in their day-to-day work.
  • A collaborative approach to work and problem-solving.
  • The skills to work quickly and thoughtfully to resolve customer issues with our community and colleagues.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a related bachelor's degree and four (4) years of professional-level human services program experience (e.g., public assistance or social services), preferably two (2) of which have been in a lead or supervisory capacity; OR, human services program experience may be substituted for the four-year bachelor's degree on an equal-time basis; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
