General Statement of Duties
Closing Date: This position closes on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
Collaborates with County officials and Public Safety agencies (Police, Fire, Sheriff, Emergency Communications & Emergency Management) in developing photographic, video and other materials designed to serve their public relations and communication needs; develops or assists County Public Safety agencies in developing and implementing positive public relations and social media communications and materials; and performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Duties
Extensive knowledge, experience and demonstrated expertise in:
- Public Safety media relations
- English language, grammar and writing for publication, including familiarity with AP style
- Writing news releases, speeches for public officials and scripts for video production
- Planning, coordinating and completing multiple assignments simultaneously
- Responding to news media requests
- Managing communications projects, including coordination of news conferences and news media events
- Communicating effectively in crisis situations, including the use of social media
- Creating engaging text, photo and video content for social media platforms (Facebook, X, Instagram, Nextdoor, YouTube)
- Independently developing optimal posting schedules, utilizing web traffic and customer engagement metrics
- Answering inquiries from the general public and providing online customer service
- Maintaining a flexible work schedule to include on-call and after-hours assignments
Minimum Qualifications
Four (4) year degree in journalism, public relations, communications, public administration, government, political science or a related field; and four (4) years of public information work experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Additional Information
Valid driver’s license to perform assigned duties at various locations.
