The Pharmacy Intern reports to the Pharmacy Coordinator. Under general supervision, the Pharmacy Intern supports the drug distribution activities of the Department of Pharmacy Services.

Unit Dose Preparation
- Accurately prepare and label all medication orders.
- Delivers medications to patient care areas in a timely fashion.
- Utilizes a biological safety cabinet (BSC) to prepare enteral hazardous drugs and chemotherapy, as applicable.
- Fills and exchanges unit dose carts.
- Prepares extemporaneous dosage forms for strengths of medications not commercially available per policy.
- Performs crediting and returning functions for unused medications in a timely fashion
- Operates automatic equipment (i.e. med carousel, Robot) efficiently to fill orders, if applicable.
- Documents regulatory requirements on time in appropriate system (i.e. PharmacyKeeper)

Compound Sterile Preparations
- Accurately prepare, label and deliver all medication orders.
- Maintains annual competency in aseptic technique by participating in required annual training, performing a media fill, glove fingertip test, and skills checkoff satisfactorily
- Maintains the cleanroom environment per USP 797 standards for environmental monitoring, cleaning, garbing, aseptic technique, and documentation.
- Operations automatic equipment (i.e. compounder, DoseEdge) efficiently to fill orders.
- Utilizes a biological safety cabinet (BSC) and follows appropriate precautions for preparing and handling sterile hazardous drugs and chemotherapy, as applicable.
- Documents regulatory requirements on time in appropriate systems (i.e. PharmacyKeeper, QuickBase, or Teams)

Stocking and Inventory Duties
- Rotates stock when restocking areas.
- Stocks according to established/recommended PARs and does not overstock areas
- Requests inventory needed from buyers
- Unpacks medication deliveries
- Completes assigned cycle counts and/or medication expiration audits on time

Automation replenishment and management
- Operates automation according to manufacturer’s specifications as assigned.
- Operates, accurately fills, and manages par levels in automated dispensing machines.
- Operates and generates accurate records from controlled substance machine
- Investigates and resolves discrepancies in a timely manner per policy
- Communicates stockouts with team for appropriate follow up in a timely manner
- Completes assigned weekly and quarterly expiration audits/cycle counts.

Performs other duties as assigned
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Provide pharmacy technician support to other departmental areas as
needed.
- Orients and trains new staff and student(s) in assigned areas. Provides timely written and/or verbal feedback to the team member and area coordinator.
- Maintains a professional attitude and appearance including being punctual and dependent for assigned shifts and being respectful and courteous to all.
- Upholds HIPAA regulations.
