JOB CLASSIFICATION TITLE:

Extended Academic Support Elementary Teacher

DEPARTMENT:

Teaching and Learning

DATES & TIMES:

July 7, 2025 – July 31, 2025 (M-TH)

Teacher hours: 8:00am - 1:00pm

LOCATION:

PreK-8 School Sites: Carrington, Duggan, Gilmartin, Reed and Wendell Cross
Please be advised: The grade level assigned and location of the summer site are dependent on the availability of funds in the budget and student enrollment and may change accordingly and/or be eliminated per the discretion of the Board.

BARGAINING UNIT CLASSIFICATION:
Salary per WTA Contract
REPORTS TO:
Receives administrative direction from the EAS Site Administrator or other administrative officials of a higher grade
FLSA DESIGNATION:
Exempt
PART I - SUMMARY OF CLASSIFICATION
This class is accountable for facilitating learning, academic achievement, social-emotional learning, and personal development by providing instruction to students in an in-person setting. This class also develops and implements curriculum and lesson plans, utilizes technology to facilitate learning, and demonstrates an understanding of the varying learning styles and the needs of a diverse student population.
PART II - MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
A. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
General Experience:
  1. Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college.

B. CREDENTIALS:
  1. Google Certified Educator Level 1 preferred
  2. Kami Certified Educator preferred

C. LICENSURES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Employment in this class is conditional upon the possession of a valid Connecticut State Board of Education teaching certificate/endorsement(s) appropriate to the teaching assignment.
  2. Applicants must be available to work all sixteen (16) days of in-person EAS
  3. Applicants must be available to engage in eight (8) hours of paid collaborative planning time during the month of June.
  4. Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a current Motor Vehicle operator’s license.
  5. A reference check may be conducted with the applicant’s direct supervisor.

D. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  1. Knowledge of effective instructional strategies
  2. Excellent technology skills
  3. Extensive knowledge in i-Ready, Fundations, and Lexia
  4. Knowledge and expertise in explicit small group reading instruction, differentiated instruction, Language Arts & Math curriculum, and Common Core State Standards.
  5. Knowledge of social-emotional learning support strategies
  6. Knowledge of the GSuite applications in Google and how they are used to support teaching and learning, including, but not limited to: Google Classroom, Google Meet, Google Forms, Google Drive, Google Slides, Google Groups, Google Calendar and Gmail;
  7. Knowledge of Google extensions that create a more efficient workflow and that enhance teaching and learning.
  8. Knowledge of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and Scientific Research-Based Interventions (SRBI)

PART III - POSITION SUPERVISES:
  1. May direct the work of paraprofessionals and other non-certified support staff.

PART IV - ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following identifies the primary and essential functions of the position and is not intended to be an exhaustive listing of all duties.
  1. Provide an emotionally safe learning environment
  2. Conduct daily small group learning sessions in Language Arts, Mathematics, and Social-Emotional Learning designed to meet the individual needs of students
  3. Communicate student assessment data to families (pre, mid, post)
  4. Provide one to one feedback for students in their synchronous lessons
  5. Implement curriculum for Language Arts and Mathematics
  6. Use mCLASS and i-Ready tools to design small group instruction
  7. Provide differentiated instruction based on identified student needs
  8. Administer student assessments and maintain accurate data
  9. Maintain classroom attendance
  10. Facilitate reading foundational skills lessons
  11. May be asked to model lessons for colleagues
  12. Willingness to learn and use new technologies and Google extensions
  13. Complete other tasks assigned by the EAS administrator

Salary: Per WTA contract for Certified Teachers
