POSITION: Food Service Worker Summer Program – Internal Applicants Only

LOCATION: Various Sites

SALARY: Current food service workers with SMCPS shall be paid their hourly rate of pay.

EFFECTIVE: July 1, 2026

NATURE OF WORK:

Performs a variety of tasks related to food production and food service in a fast-paced environment under the direction of the food service manager. The work requires a substantial amount of physical dexterity, can be repetitive, and requires prolonged standing. Food Service Workers are provided on the job training and are expected to become proficient in accomplishing required duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ability to use technology effectively to complete tasks
  • Ability to report to work when scheduled and on time
  • Possess effective organizational skills
  • Possess effective written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to lift heavy items up to 50 lbs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares bulk quantities of food items in accordance with established recipes
  • Cleans and sanitizes food service equipment and associated spaces
  • Assists in serving bulk food items during designated distribution times
  • Operate a point-of-sale computer terminal
  • Maintains portion control standards
  • Uses proper servicing techniques
  • Lifts heavy items and pushes carts to serving areas
  • Assist in washing pots and pans on a rotating basis
  • Performs other necessary duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Must be physically able to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Current SMCPS employee

Preferred:

  • Experience in a commercial food service environment

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:

Temporary/hourly position.

SALARY GRADE RANGE: The salary for current food service employees is their hourly rate of pay.

BARGAINING UNIT ELIGIBILITY: Not eligible.
