General Statement of Duties

Performs technical bookkeeping, processes payables and receivables, travel coordination, and other work in connection with the financial operation of the Police Division; does related work as required.


This position is primarily responsible for reconciling timecards for payroll and facilitating paperwork related to changes in leave status and timecards; develop reports related to timekeeping and payroll; generates invoices and receives payments from outside agencies for special event coverage; does related work as required.

Essential Duties

This position serves as the payroll clerk for the department. The payroll clerk is responsible for knowing and understanding timekeeping and leave policies for the department and County and be able to explain those policies to other employees. This role facilitates the submission of all timecards with the help of HR. When payroll has been completed, the timecard data is extracted, reviewed, and compiled to bill various other agencies. This position also serves as an administrator of the timekeeping system to update employee schedules related to internal transfers. Other duties include tasks such as verifying changes in pay rate, pay corrections, and clothing allowances. The successful candidate will have good communication skills; ability to extract, manipulate, and report data using Excel; excellent organization skills and record keeping skills.

  • Considerable knowledge of methods used in keeping fiscal accounts and records
  • Good knowledge of office terminology, procedures, routines and equipment
  • Some knowledge of accounting principles and practices
  • Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations quickly and accurately
  • Ability to keep and to make reports from financial records
  • Ability to accurately proofread and verify financial documents
  • Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written directions
  • Ability to research a variety of data
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with employees and the public
  • Accuracy

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school, preferably with bookkeeping and business coursework, and four (4) years of clerical/bookkeeping work experience; Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Additional Information

Expected hiring salary range for this position is $41,517.69 - $43,510.65.
