Position: ESY Summer Program - Special Education Teacher INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY
(temporary/hourly assignment)
Location: Virtual and In-Person options Site to be Determined
Salary: The rate of pay for this position is $40.00/hour for staff holding MSDE certification.
Effective: July 2026

NATURE OF WORK:
All summer school positions are temporary. The Summer School Teacher is a professional position with primary responsibility to coordinate and deliver age and grade-level appropriate instruction and assess student learning in various summer school programs, to include in-person, hybrid, and virtual learning environments.

- Possess excellent time management skills and the ability to take initiative and make decisions within assigned responsibility in a challenging, fast-paced professional environment and be flexible in work responsibilities and hours
- Possess knowledge of the programs, policies, and procedures of the St. Mary’s County Public Schools
- Ability to provide guidance to students to promote education development and welfare
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans, delivers, and evaluates specially designed instruction as it relates to student IEP goals and objectives in various forms to include online and virtual instruction
- Collects and maintains student work samples and data as it relates to the IEP goals and objectives
- Implements student adaptive behavior supports including, when necessary, self-care and hygiene routines (e.g., toileting feeding, etc.)
- Provides care and protection of school property
- Supervises student activity on school property
- Plans and coordinates the instructional program in accordance with the current curricula
- Maintains accurate student records
- Assists students with learning activities
- Maintains open lines of communications with students, staff and parents
- Maintains a safe and orderly environment for staff, students, and parents/guardians
- Effectively manages student behavior
- Participates in professional development and/or professional meetings as needed
- Performs other duties as assigned

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a temporary/hourly position for the course of the summer, not to exceed September 1 of each fiscal year. There is no guarantee of continuation in this position from one fiscal year to the next.
SALARY: The rate of pay for this position is $40.00/hour for staff holding MSDE certification.
PROJECTED DATES AND HOURS: (In addition to the dates, compensation may be provided for necessary professional development, planning, recordkeeping, staffing, and/or other programmatic needs.)
For our Intensive needs camp -
Dates: July 1- August 5 (5 weeks)
Staff Hours will vary based on ESY hour recommendations
Location: Leonardtown Middle School
ESY dates will also be the same as the camp's. Staff hours are flexible based on the schedule developed with families.
