This position is responsible for transporting passengers over specifieddistant points according to a set time schedule . Duties involve theability to operate the assigned vehicle in a safe, r eliable, andprofessional manner while being courteous, patient, and help fulto allpassengers.
Work Performed
Skills and knowle dge of how to operate in a transit systems andcoordination with team mem bers daily.Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):Abides by a llsafety and traffic regulations/laws as well as companypolicy/procedure s; properly completes all required paperwork to includemanifests, pre/po st-inspection checks, accident reports, and otherapplicable forms/report s. Uses sound judgment in following dispatchinstructions, beingable to recognize, create, and follow logicalsequences for pick- up and drop- of f of passengers inan efficientmanner. Attends training classes with suc cessful completion; answerspassenger questions politely and accurately,t o include questions aboutservice area, eligibility requirements, and far es; ensures passengers'ride is comfortable and safe; provides assistance to individuals asneeded; knows and abides by all federal transit requir ements; keepscurrent on the operation of all service routes; safely oper ates transitvehicles to pick up and transport customers while adheringto transitvehicle route schedule and maintaining a pleasant and courteous mannercompletes familiarization with system and safety features; geograp hy androadways of an assigned route and of the entire service area; traf ficrules, regulations and laws, and transfer points; receives and transm itstwo-way radio messagesinvolving accidents, incidents, emergencies,cr iminal activities,or other authorizedDuke University businessutilizing judgment and discretion to ensure customer and individualsafety. Perform s vehicle operations at varying hours of day and night.Will work outside regular business hours as required by service demands;writes reports an d completes forms as required, may prepare detailedwritten reports conce rning accidents incidents, breakdowns andmechanical defects, as required at the end of their shiftPerforms other duties as required by departmen t on the position
Minimum Qualifications
Experience
AT LEAST ONE YEAR EXPERIENCE OPERATING PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION VEHICLES/HEAVY TRUCKS OR OTHER HEAVY VEHICLES AND VALID NC CLASS B DRIVERSLICENSE WITH AIR BRAKE AND PASSENGER ENDORSEMENT, OPERATES BUS TO TRANSPORT STUDENTS, EMPLOYEES, PATIENTS AND VISTORS.
