Position Overview: The District Literacy Coordinator is a leadership role responsible for
developing, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive literacy program for the entire K-12
school district. This position is designed to improve literacy outcomes across all grade levels,
ensuring that students acquire the skills necessary for academic success and lifelong learning.
The Literacy Coordinator works with the District Academic Team to enhance instruction,
provide professional development, and assess the effectiveness of literacy programs across the
district.
Qualifications:
? Education: A Master’s degree in Education, Literacy, Reading, or a related field is
required. Certification in literacy, reading, or English language arts is preferred.
? Experience: Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience, with at least 2 years in a
leadership or instructional coaching role focused on literacy preferred. Experience in K-
12 literacy curriculum development and program implementation is preferred.
? Skills & Abilities:
? Strong knowledge of K-12 literacy development, including reading, writing,
speaking, listening, and digital literacy.
? Familiarity with state and national literacy standards and assessments.
? Ability to analyze and interpret student performance data to drive instructional
decision-making.
? Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
? Strong organizational and project management skills.
? Ability to inspire and motivate staff and students to achieve high literacy
standards.
Position/Location:
? This position is 12-month/ Central Office - occasional travel between district schools,
state meetings, and professional opportunities is required.

? Director of Academics
Key Responsibilities:
1. Program Development & Implementation:
? Develop and implement a cohesive, district-wide literacy plan that aligns with
state standards, research-based practices, and the needs of students at all grade
levels (K-12).
? Design and promote literacy curricula and resources that address diverse student
populations, including English language learners, students with disabilities, and
struggling readers.
? Oversee the integration of literacy across all content areas (e.g., science, social
studies, mathematics).
2. Curriculum Alignment & Support:
? Collaborate with teachers and administrators to ensure alignment of curriculum,
assessments, and instructional strategies to promote student literacy development.
? Provide instructional guidance on best practices for reading, writing, speaking,
and listening skills in all subject areas.
? Evaluate and recommend instructional materials, tools, and resources that support
literacy instruction.
3. Professional Development & Training:
? Develop and lead ongoing professional development opportunities for teachers,
administrators, and support staff in literacy instruction and assessment techniques.
? Provide coaching and mentoring for teachers to improve literacy instruction,
differentiating strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners.
? Stay current on emerging literacy research and trends, and disseminate
information to staff to enhance teaching practices.
4. Data Analysis & Monitoring:
? Analyze student literacy data from assessments (e.g., state assessments, district
benchmarks, formative assessments) to identify trends, gaps, and areas for
improvement.
? Monitor the effectiveness of literacy programs and instructional strategies,
adjusting plans and resources based on data and feedback.
? Prepare regular reports for district leadership and school boards on literacy
performance and progress toward district literacy goals.
5. Grant Management:
? Write grant and state proposals for funding of curriculum and intervention
programs.
? Manage funding for purchases and implementation of literacy curriculum.
6. Leadership & Collaboration:
? Act as a liaison between district leadership, schools, and community stakeholders
to ensure consistent and effective literacy programming.
? Lead district literacy committees and collaborate with other educational leaders to
establish district-wide literacy goals and initiatives.
? Advocate for literacy in district policy and resource allocation.
