Job Description SummaryThe Nurse Extern performs routine duties within the limits of training and certification in caring for the hospitalized patient. The Nurse Extern may be cross-trained to operate as a Unit Secretary depending on the demands and needs of the unit in which they are assigned. The care is rendered under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Performs other duties related to the work described herein.

Assist with the care of patients as delegated by the RN with ADL’s, performs patient care tasks and maintains a safe clean environment. The current employee must be in an accredited nursing school. Provide secretary/clerical assistance. Task may include, but are not limited to, vital signs, accucheck, ambulation, simple (non-sterile) dressing changes, toileting assistance, patient transport to other departments, answering the phone, faxing, preparing charts.

- High school graduate
- Complete Clinical Competencies required for assigned area before working off orientation.
- Currently enrolled in a nursing program and maintaining education requirements of Nursing Program.
