Job Description

Reporting to the Title IX Coordinator, the Deputy Title IX Coordinator partners with the Title IX Coordinator to respond to complaints of sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, and gender-based discrimination, as defined in MUSC’s Nondiscrimination, Anti-Harassment and Equal Opportunity Policy and Complaint Procedures. The Deputy Title IX Coordinator is responsible for providing institution-wide leadership and expertise related to Title IX and sexual harassment. This position participates in collaborative and coordinated efforts in monitoring misconduct, grievance processes, education, outreach and reporting.
 

As a member of the enterprise-wide Office of Equity team, the Deputy Title IX Coordinator, under the supervision of the Title IX Coordinator, collaborates across the enterprise to create leadership and intercultural competence opportunities to support the learning, development and awareness of every member of the academic health science community. The Deputy Title IX Coordinator works in tandem with the Office of Equity team to ensure that MUSC’s  workforce, learning and patient environments adhere do not tolerate discrimination, harassment and sexual  misconduct.

25%:  Assists the Title IX Coordinator in managing all reports of sex and gender-based discrimination, including sexual harassment and sexual misconduct.

Expectations

  • Accurately updates the incident report and case tracking spreadsheet and Box files.
  • Consistently monitors email address (including titleix@musc.edu) and responds to complaints and requests for service within one (1) business day.
  • Effectively triages and escalates necessary issues to the Title IX Coordinator.

25 %: Provides comprehensive and timely resources and support services to students, faculty and staff reporting sexual misconduct and/or gender discrimination.

  • Maintains relationships and effective and timely communications with organizational partners, including DPS, CAPS, EAP, BSIT, Student Engagement, and others, to be able to provide the most up-to-date information regarding campus resources to interested individuals.
  • Maintains an up-to-date understanding of and makes appropriate referrals to external organizations that offer services relevant to our students and employees, including My Sister’s House, Tri-Country SPEAKS, Victim Advocates, etc.
  • Is able to provide accurate, real-time guidance to individuals who report experiencing crimes of sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, and criminal harassment. This includes being able to clearly explain the difference between the criminal justice process and the administrative process at MUSC, as well as the process for obtaining an order of protection and restraining orders.
  • Develops, documents, and successfully executes supportive measures for students and employees in collaboration with organizational partners as needed.
  • Develops and delivers effective training materials for students and employees.

25 %: Conducts intake meetings and investigations as assigned by the Title IX Coordinator

  • Develops, documents and executes on comprehensive and accurate investigation plans and investigative outlines.
  • Produces clear, thorough, factual, grammatically correct, and logically consistent written reports.
  • Conduct research using internal databases, as well as external sources prior to meeting with a party, witness, or reporter, and during the investigation.

15 %:  Stays up to date on all guidance, regulations, trends, and statutes relating to sex and gender-based discrimination including, but not limited to Title VII, Title IX, VAWA, Campus Save Act, Clery Act, and any new legislation on the subject

  • Able to effectively summarize and execute on relevant changes to the laws and guidance in oral and written form.

10%:  Performs all other ad hoc responsibilities as assigned by the Title IX Coordinator

Pay Range:

$54,974.00 - $78,343.00 - $101,712.00

Minimum Requirements: A bachelor's degree and three years relevant program experience.
