REPORTS TO: Director of Communications and Marketing
CLASSIFICATION: Classified
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year as reviewed and established annually by the Board of Education
EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated regularly in accordance with the Board’s policy on the evaluation of classified staff. Additional evaluations may be submitted at the discretion of the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources.
JOB SUMMARY
Guided by district policy, the Superintendent, and the Director of Communications and Marketing, the Communications Specialist will research, prepare, compose, design, write, edit and distribute a variety of materials in print, video and /or electronic format; provide assistance to departments in implementing effective communication plans; develop and maintain a specialized knowledge base and skill set relevant to assigned communicating duties and stakeholder engagement activities that build support and understanding for Waynesville R-VI schools, programs, and initiatives. This specialist will work to ensure consistency and quality across Waynesville-RVI communications and adherence to the district’s strategic communication goals and priorities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
NOTE:

Launches and maintains systems needed to provide consistent, effective communication with stakeholder groups, including website, social media, digital newsletters and other systems.
Provides trainings as needed for Waynesville R-VI communication systems and content creation.
Prepares written and multimedia content for social media platforms, district website, newsletters, media promotion, internal platforms, and other mediums as assigned.
Communicates with other departments and staff regarding the coordination and distribution of information
Supports crisis communication efforts through the production of written and recorded messages across multiple platforms.
Locates, interprets, and maintains statistical data as needed.
Maintains liaison with community agencies, organizations, and community representatives; coordinates various partnership programs involving students or staff and community organizations.
Analyzes internal communications needs and makes recommendations for methods to meet the information needs of internal audiences.
Discovers Waynesville R-VI story opportunities. Identifies, develops, and successfully presents stories using a variety of communication systems.
Photographs and videotapes of virtual and in-person events, programs and activities for branding, marketing and messaging purposes.
Produces and edits video and multimedia content for delivery to internal and external audiences
Maintains the district’s public master calendar.
Within legal confines, protects confidentiality of records and information about staff, using the utmost discretion when sharing any such information.

Displays ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, students, community members, Fort Leonard Wood, and outside agencies.

Works to verify facts and to clarify information.
Stays well informed about developments in nearby school districts and in public education in general. Performs other duties and responsibilities that are within the scope of employment, as assigned by the Superintendent.
Assists staff in responding to news media inquiries by determining appropriate resources and strategies for responses.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
:
The individual must be able to perform each essential job duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The following requirements are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities needed to perform the job at a fully acceptable level.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND/OR CERTIFICATION
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, or relative field..
Three years professional or technical experience specializing in communication systems and support preferred..
Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud programs, including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may deem appropriate or acceptable.

Strong communication, public relation, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback.
Ability to compose correspondence, reports, and/or other required written materials.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret information.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions, inquiries, and/or complaints.
Displays courtesy, tact, and respect when dealing with others.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to perform basic math using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals consistent with the duties of this position.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions and information furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Ability to identify and define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Employee experiences constant interruptions and inflexible deadlines. The noise level in this environment is quiet to moderate. Duties are performed primarily indoors and occasionally outdoors.
