Job Description Summary

• Multi-Modality Imaging Technologist’s provide exams in the field of radiologic imaging to include diagnostic x-ray, c-arm, bone density and CT to the specifications of the ordering provider and radiologist’s needs.
• Maintains knowledge concerning radiation protection and safety in addition to infection control and standard precautions.
• Preform patient assessments and provide patient care in a timely, professional, efficient, and safe manner.
• Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment, and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation.
• When ordered, prepares, and administers contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice. Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate.
• Prepares equipment and supplies. Selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters. Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment. Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary.

• Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s). Analyzes results and identifies issues with the quality of imaging results. Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure. Enters, transmits, and reports scan results.
• May be required to provide coverage for other outreach sites located in Mt. Pleasant, North Charleston, and West Ashley.

Job Description

  • Perform procedures in Advanced Imaging Modalities as ordered by referring physicians; ensures that valid order is obtained prior to performing study. 
  • Communicates daily with scheduling regarding opportunities for add-on examinations.
  • Ensures that financial counselor is notified of any exam changes and add on exams prior to performing Advanced Imaging study.
  • Follows Radiologist/physicians protocols when scanning patients.  Notifies provider/ clinic via phone or Epic of order change requests.
  • Communicates any appointment delays directly to the patient, front desk, or referring provider/clinic.
  • Ensures that all imaging exams are coded with the correct exam code.
  • Ensures that all procedures are completed in Radiology Information System for Radiologist’s interpretation.
  • Performs daily check of Radiology Information System to ensure that all exams performed the prior day have a final report.
  • Communicates STAT and Call Report requests to the Radiologist, by phone and through the Radiology Information System.
  • Uploads patient’s comparison exams into the PACS system as needed.
  • Performs all required QA and QC measures as indicated by the imaging equipment manufacturer and ACR.  Reports equipment malfunctions to service provider and Supervisor.
  • Reviews patient history prior to the advanced imaging procedure, ensures that there are no contraindications to patient undergoing ordered procedure. 
  • Verifies patient Creatinine lab value prior to injection of any contrast material, performs I-STAT point of care testing per modality policy.
  • Records contrast amount and concentration in Radiology Information System.
  • Documents patient medications and drug allergies in Radiology Information System. 
  • Tests defibrillator and maintains emergency contrast reaction box and crash-cart.
  • Requisitions exam room supplies from central supply.  Communicates any increase in supply demand to Supply Manager and Supervisor .
  • Performs all patient record keeping as required by South Carolina DHEC.
  • Aids other team members, actively seeks opportunities to help others.
  • Actively participates in staff meetings and other department/site/outreach work groups.
  • Maintains CME requirements of ARRT, DHEC and ACR.

Education and Work Experience

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
  • Minimum of 2 years independent work experience.
  • Registered in Radiologic Technology
  • Registered Computed Tomography.
