Job Description Summary

The Division of Women’s Reproductive Behavioral Health (WRBH) within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is seeking a clinical research professional that will be responsible for performing a wide range of technical and professional activities with clinical research participants including pregnant and postpartum women.
Clinical research within the division is largely focused on patient-centered and community-based large-scale clinical research projects with a focus on improving the health services available to women during the pre-natal and post-partum periods. Projects span areas of focus including mental health, substance use, health disparities, and both physical/behavioral health complications following delivery.

The candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day activities on the assigned clinical research project(s) to include: recruitment, screening for eligibility, obtaining informed consent, scheduling study visits, collecting and entering data, and participant retention. This is a hybrid-based position with both remote and in-person duties including duties on-site at clinics and hospitals.
All research activities are expected to be completed in compliance with division, institutional, and regulatory guidelines under the direction of program manager(s) and principal investigator (PI). Upon hire, candidates will complete clinical research training offered to research professionals at MUSC.

Job Description

FLSA: Hourly

Work Schedule: M-F, 8:30AM – 5:00PM; In person with some remote work possible

Job Duties:

  • 30% - Implement and manage the day-to-day operations of research studies, including coordination of research activities according to the research protocol.
  • 20% - Evaluate participants for entry into research study. Conduct screening and recruitment of research participants. Obtain informed consent.
  • 10% - Develop and implement strategies to increase research participation, retention, and follow-up.
  • 10% - Manage data collection and entry functions. Assist with data quality assurance monitoring.
  • 10% - Ensure adherence to federal regulations, IRB standards and protocol requirements.
  • 10% - Develop standard operating procedures for studies, assist with IRB submissions, and maintain study regulatory files. Maintain proper documentation and record keeping.
  • 5% - Responsible for problem solving issues that arise during study procedures and to participate in trouble shooting and developing alternative approaches with the study team.
  • 5% - Maintain and update supplies needed for study.

Preferred Training and Experience: Knowledge of laws, regulations, policies, and procedures relevant to the conduct of clinical research is desirable.  Ability to collect, organize and analyze information in a clear and concise manner. Applicant must have good organization and communication skills, as well as motivation, commitment and reliability. Applicant must have ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, other health care professionals and community partners.
