Description

The purpose of the John and Elizabeth Phillips Dissertation Year Fellowship is to provide doctoral students in the last year of their dissertations the opportunity to gain experience of careers in a residential secondary school while finishing the writing process. This opportunity is for rising scholars and teachers who are historically underrepresented in independent secondary schools. Interested candidates should explore the Academy’s Courses of Instruction and departmental structures while noting the other opportunities to collaborate across campus such as with the Office of Multicultural Affairs or with the Dean of Students Office.

Fellows in the 2024 – 2025 school year will receive a stipend of $23,500. Fellows will also receive a stipend to cover tuition fees and health insurance at their institution, not to exceed $3,000. The scholar is asked to provide two online seminars (approximately 90 minutes each) per term for Academy students and/or faculty. Additionally, the scholar is asked to come to campus to engage with student groups, visit classes, and present two identical one-hour workshops over Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend (January 17-20, 2025). The scholar may also make themselves available to students interested in and student organizations related to their fields of study.
